The second annual Car Free Day Surrey presented by TransLink, is returning to Newton on Saturday June 10, 2023, from NOON - 8PM. Join us for a fun-filled day of music, dance performances, family entertainment and activities for the whole family!
This FREE event features musical performances by Luv Randhawa, a Canadian-British singer and is known as the pioneer of the Bhangra Fusion Movement in the western hemisphere. Direct support includes MNGWA, the 8-piece band with a sound all their own, mixing Latin American and African rhythms with psych rock, funk, reggae, hip hop and more. Other artists include Glisha, Hallelujah Hailu, Hayley Wallis and more to be announced soon!
For family entertainment, we have Matt Henry, the comedic juggler extraordinaire. Along with FREE face painting, a bounce house and roving entertainers in the Family Zone. Other activities include FREE Mini Golf, Giant Jenga, Connect 4 and more!
The Dance Stage returns this year, sure to be the highlight again! Breakdance Battles will be onstage all day, leading up to the finale, and hosted by Higher Ground, plus DJ performances by mr. stee & more.

R1 & 319 With the addition of the R6 in 2024 it makes common sense that Newton is next in line for expanding public transit to reduce congestion and keep the region moving. Surrey Car Free Day is an excellent opportunity to showcase the importance of alternatives to the automobile," said Philip Aguirre, Executive Director of the Newton BIA, this is a way for the community to evolve away from vehicle dependence.
“We want to encourage people to get out of their cars this summer and experience the region using transit,” said TransLink CEO Kevin Quinn. “Car Free Day is a great opportunity for everyone to visit and experience the best of their neighbourhoods using transit, walking, and cycling.”
